Adding Dramatic Shading To Your Florals

Hi and welcome back! We are so glad you’re here with us today. In case you missed it we are hosting a 30 day coloring challenge where we encourage you to take 5 minutes out of your day just for you to relax and fall back in love with your coloring mediums. But, maybe you are interested in a little more than 5 minutes, well that’s what I am here for today. I am sharing a project/video using the Sketched Florals Rose to show off dramatic color choices.

Because we are in the midst of a color challenge I have veered off from my “normal” red blend and went with one that even more scary, by adding in an RV99 which is super dark, but it really makes the highlights pop. Just like with any floral, I always map out my leaves and stems first to not confuse them with flowers using my lightest green. I also use the same method on the petals to map out the areas of the flowers that bend and would be in highlight. I think the Sketched Florals Rose was a great way to demonstrate this. You can get all the details in the video below. I also show in detail how to make realistic 3D water droplets on your petals and leaves. You’re gonna love it!!!

I produced a resource book for this challenge that contains a forward about Copics, a swatch book with my favorite blends, a coloring book, and a light source guide to assist on your coloring journal. This comes as part of the Coloring Bundle in a 1 inch binder with 5 divider tabs. I highly recommend having a place to keep your technique resources all in one place so that you can reference over and over again. I keep mine on my desk. I have an entire playlist on Youtube to assist you in starting your reference guide.
