Featured Supplies

For this project, I used the Happy Flappy Stamp Set from Pajama Crafter Stamps, black ink, white cardstock, and alcohol markers for the stamping and coloring. I fussy cut the images with my trusty scissors. To create the background, I used a variety of distress inks. The sentiment on the card front was stamped with a rich black ink. For layering, I chose coordinating pattern paper from my stash and adhered everything to a sturdy card base. To attach the pieces, I used liquid glue and foam adhesive, and for a touch of sparkle, I added Arctic Blue Rhinestones from Pajama Crafter Stamps.

Creating the Scene

When it comes to crafting, I always find that the magic happens in the details. For this card, I started by stamping the adorable stingray and hammerhead shark from the Happy Flappy Stamp Set in black ink onto white cardstock. I colored these delightful characters with my favorite alcohol markers, which blend beautifully and offer a fantastic range of colors. After coloring, I fussy cut the images using my trusty scissors. Fussy cutting can be quite relaxing, almost like a mini-meditation session, don’t you think?

Ink Blending the Background

Next, it was time to create the underwater scene. I used a simple hill-shaped mask cut from copy paper to define the sand and sea. For the ocean, I ink blended with a range of blue distress inks on a piece of white cardstock. This gradient of blues creates a beautiful, realistic ocean effect. After removing the mask, I blended the sand with some light brown distress inks. A pro tip: always blend in circular motions to avoid harsh lines and achieve a smooth transition of colors.

Assembling the Card

Once the background was complete, I stamped the sentiment “You’re a ray of sunshine” on the card front with black ink. I then layered two pieces of coordinating pattern paper from my stash onto my A2 size card base, cut from sturdy white cardstock. This added a nice frame and some extra texture to the card.

Bringing it All Together

To attach the ink-blended background to the card base, I used liquid glue for a strong and seamless bond. Then, I adhered the hammerhead shark with a little liquid glue and added the stingray with foam adhesive to give it some dimension. This layering technique really brings the characters to life and makes the scene pop.

Finishing Touches

No card is complete without a bit of sparkle! I finished off the design by adding a few Arctic Blue Rhinestones from Pajama Crafter Stamps around the sentiment. These rhinestones catch the light beautifully and add the perfect finishing touch to the card.

Inside the Card

I love adding a little surprise inside my cards. For this one, I stamped another shark image and a sentiment inside the card with a light brown ink. It’s a simple touch that adds an extra layer of thoughtfulness.
