Here’s a step-by-step guide to creating this card:

1. Card Layers: I knew I wanted to make a scene card but wanted it to have layers so I used a semicircle die to create a place for my sentiment.

2. Design plan: I placed all of my critter stamps on my stamping platform to figure out spacing before I started stamping.

3. Front to Back: The first images I stamped were the ones that will be in the front of the scene.

5. Masking: Masking allows you to overlap stamps and create depth in your scenes. I stamped each critter and also stamped a masking sheet before removing it from my stamping platform. I then “fussy cut” each one using my shears and placed a mask over each critter front to back.

7. Background: I used a tree stencil and two green shades of Distress Oxide for my tree background. I alternated the colors to add some depth and visual interest to the tree line.

8. Foreground: Next, I covered the trees with a scrap piece of cardstock and colored my grass.

9. Light and Shadow: My sunlight is coming from the top left so my shadows fall toward bottom right. The shadows were created using a darker green and a little black Distress Oxide.

10. Sentiment: I placed my scene over my card base to plan my sentiment location, then removed the top layer before stamping.

11. Bringing the Scene to Life: I removed the masks and colored all of my stamped images using a mix of Copic and Altenew alcohol markers.
