Creating a meaningful handmade sympathy card can feel like a delicate task, but combining thoughtful design with beautiful elements makes it truly special. Today, I’m sharing an elegant Zoyfold card featuring the stunning In Our Hearts Always stamp set from Pajama Crafter Stamps. This heartfelt card blends soft teal tones, layered die cuts, and gold accents to create a comforting design for a friend’s family.
What Is a Zoyfold Card?
A Zoyfold card is a clever combination of two interactive card styles: 1. a Z-fold base, which is scored in thirds to create a zig-zag shape and 2. a joy-fold flap, which is a smaller folded panel that folds on to the front.
The Process
Follow these simple steps to create your own Zoyfold card:
Step 1: Create the card base by cutting cardstock to 5.5″ x 8.5″. You will score at 4.25″ and fold the front flap back halfway at 2 1/8″ to form the Z-fold
2: Add patterned paper panels slightly smaller (about 1/8″ smaller on all sides) than the panel size. Adhere to each section of the card base
Step 3: Create the joy fold panel by cutting cardstock to 3″ x 5″ and scoring at 1.5″. This will be the foundation for the front of your card.
Step 4: Assemble the interactive element by adhering the joy-fold panel to the base. You will want to be sure to attach it before adding the inside patterned paper layer so that the base is is hidden.
Step 5: Finish the inside with a 3.5″ x 3.5″ white panel for your personal message. I decorated it with 1″ x 1″ tucked behind as accent squares for a polished look.
Card Design Details
For this sympathy card, I used the In Our Hearts Always stamp set to create a soft floral spray. If you are new to alcohol marker coloring, this is a great stamp to get started with as you can accomplish this beautiful blend with just 2-3 markers. Pro tip: be sure that your image is stamped in an alcohol marker-friendly black ink and completely dry before adding your color. If you would like, you can heat-set the ink. Alcohol markers provide such depth and vibrancy. The sentiment was heat embossed in gold on a large circle to give elegance and act as an anchor for my spray and additional die cut florals. Gold cord, wax seal sticker, and embellishments add warmth and sophistication while keeping the tone appropriate for a sympathy card.
