Bruno Bee Keeper : Bee-Themed Handmade Card

Card Inspiration

If you love online card challenges that push your creativity in new directions, this project is going to feel like pure inspiration. This week’s challenge included four prompts—Diagonal Cut, Calm Colors, Post(er)(s), and Hexagon —and they came together in the most delightful way on this Sweet as Honey handmade card.

Blending warm yellows, soft purples, and bold black accents from The Bee’s Knees Paper Pack, this design proves that calm colors can still deliver striking contrast. The star of the show is the charming bee keeper bear, whose personality instantly brings the card to life. Layered textures, honeycomb patterns, and a playful diagonal layout make this card both eye‑catching and stash‑friendly.

Basic Two-for-One Background Technique

  1. I started with two coordinating papers from The Bee’s Knees paper pack
  2. I used the same diagonal die from stash to cut both papers, then swapped pieces to create contrasting patterns – then covered the seam with a solid piece of paper from the same paper pack
  3. I layered the panels on a postage die background in black to draw the eye to the focal image – that adorable Bruno Bee Keeper, and added to card bases. The Pajama Crafter Stamps Moonlight A2 Card Bases with Envelopes provide a quick base.

Two-for-one background is a great cardmaking that lets you create two coordinating background panels at the same time – perfect for stretching supplies and saving time. I used one background and kept the other to be used for a second card.

Technique Spotlight: Alcohol Marker Coloring

I stamped Bruno the Bee Keeper and bee hive boxes in an alcohol-marker friendly black ink. I brought them to life using alcohol markers by blending soft browns and subtle shading to add depth without overpowering the playful style. A pop of lavender on the hat ties beautifully into the background layers. Tip: Use light flicking motions to create soft fur texture on stamped animals.

Stretch Your Stash

This card is a great example of using what you already have. I used some twine and die cuts from my stash to pair with Bruno Bee Keeper Stamps and The Bee’s Knees Paper Pack – mixing something new with some you already have. Twine adds texture without needing a lot of extra embellishments. Of course I had to add Buttercream Rhinestone Mix for that sparkle. Pro tip: Stamp extra images while you have your stamp set out and tuck them into the stamp envelope so you can have images ready to color or even pre-color them so you can put together a card quickly.

Design Details to Love

The vellum circle softens the busy background while still letting the pattern peek through. The black twine bow adds contrast and a handmade touch The banner sentiment “Sweet as Honey” balances the layout and draws the eye across the card. The Banner Die Set is one of my craft room staples. If you don’t have it yet, be sure to add them to your next Pajama Crafter Stamps order. I find that I reach for them so often and wonder how I survived without them for so long. The honeycomb die cut element behind the focal images ties everything together thematically.
