Create a Moonlit Farm Scene with the Hog Your Shine Stamp Set

Sometimes the best cards begin with a single thought…

“What if this little pig wasn’t trying to escape… what if he was just looking for snacks?”

That one idea completely changed the direction of this card and turned it into one of my favorite masculine designs! By combining scene building, Copic coloring, die-cutting, and ink blending, this playful little pig comes to life as he peeks over the fence under a glowing full moon.

If you’d like to see every step of the creative process, be sure to watch the replay of my YouTube Live where I share all of the coloring, masking, scene building, and little design decisions that brought this card together.

A Creative CASE with a Nighttime Twist

This week’s inspiration came from the incredibly talented Mary Gunn’s card from Friday night’s Craft Roulette.

Mary designed a bright daytime farm scene and hand-drew the pig’s pen. I absolutely loved her concept, but my imagination immediately wandered somewhere completely different…

When I saw the Craft Roulette color parameter of “Sleigh Ride,” I didn’t think about winter papers or patterned cardstock.

Instead…

I pictured Santa’s sleigh flying across a glowing full moon.

That iconic silhouette inspired me to transform the entire card into a peaceful nighttime scene with dramatic moonlight illuminating our curious little pig.

Rather than drawing the fence, I created a dimensional pig pen using die-cut fence pieces, giving the scene extra depth while making it look like our mischievous friend is stretching just high enough to see what’s happening outside his enclosure.

And judging by that sentiment…

He’s definitely not escaping. He’s just here for the snacks!

Building a Dramatic Night Sky

One of my favorite parts of this project is the sky.

Using the Full Moon Stencil, I created a large glowing moon that instantly becomes the focal point of the card. Soft ink blending around the stencil gives the illusion of moonlight shining across the scene while the darker sky provides beautiful contrast which blended with Distress Oxide Inks.

A few splatters, stars, and sparkling embellishments help transform the background into a magical evening sky that feels calm, whimsical, and full of storytelling.

Sometimes a stencil doesn’t just become part of the background…

It becomes the story.

Bringing the Pig to Life

The adorable pig from the Hog Your Shine Stamp Set steals the show.

Colored with Copic markers, his oversized green eyes, fuzzy texture, and expressive face instantly make him feel full of personality. Positioning him so he’s peeking over the fence creates movement and curiosity—almost like you caught him sneaking a late-night snack.

Little details like popped popcorn scattered around the fence add even more humor while reinforcing the playful sentiment.

Playing Along with Craft Roulette

One of my favorite things about Craft Roulette is finding creative ways to interpret each parameter.

Here’s how this card checked every box:

The “pen” parameter ended up being especially fun.

Instead of using it only one way, I challenged myself to incorporate it twice:

It’s always satisfying when a single parameter inspires multiple creative ideas!

Be sure to catch the YouTube Live Replay on the Pajama Crafter Stamps YouTube Channel. I’ll walk you through the complete process, share my Copic coloring tips, scene-building techniques, and explain the creative decisions that transformed inspiration into a completely different finished design.

Whether you’re looking for masculine card ideas, scene-building inspiration, or fun ways to stretch your stamps, I hope this project encourages you to take inspiration and make it uniquely your own.

After all…

Sometimes all it takes is changing the time of day to create an entirely new story.
