There is something magical about standing on a quiet beach as the sun sinks below the horizon. The sky glows in brilliant shades of pink, coral, and purple while the sea reflects every color of the evening light. This 5×7 handmade card captures that peaceful moment—with a whimsical pirate twist!
Using several Pajama Crafter Stamps products together, this scene tells a story from the very first glance. A majestic sailing ship glides behind colorful beach huts, while a hidden pathway winds toward an adorable octopus proudly guarding his treasure chest. Every layer invites the eye to explore another delightful detail.

Building a Story One Layer at a Time
One of the most rewarding parts of scene-building cardmaking is combining multiple stamp sets into one cohesive design. Although these images come from different collections, they work together as though they were created for one another.
For this card I combined:
- Beach Huts Stamp Set
- Adventure Awaits Stamp Set
- Sea You Soon Stamp Set
- Kraken Good Day Stamp Set
The result is a coastal adventure filled with charm, imagination, and plenty of personality.

Creating Depth with Masking
The star of this design is the dramatic sailing ship appearing behind the colorful beach huts.
To achieve this effect, I first stamped and masked the Beach Huts before stamping the ship from Adventure Awaits behind them. Masking allows the ship to naturally disappear behind the rooftops, instantly creating believable depth without complicated techniques.
This simple masking trick transforms individual stamps into one seamless waterfront scene and makes the ship feel as though it’s sailing just offshore.
A Vibrant Distress Oxide Sunset
Nothing sets the mood quite like a glowing sunset.
The sky was created using Distress Oxide Inks blended together in this gorgeous combination:
- Squeezed Lemonade
- Abandoned Coral
- Picked Raspberry
- Seedless Preserves
Beginning with the warm yellow near the horizon and gradually blending into rich raspberry and deep purple creates the illusion of the sun fading into evening. The soft transitions between colors make the entire scene feel warm, peaceful, and inviting.
The bright beach huts pop beautifully against the dramatic sky, creating a striking focal point that immediately catches your eye.
Leading the Eye Through the Scene
A beautiful card doesn’t simply display images—it guides the viewer through a story.
The sandy beach pathway from the Sea You Soon Day Stamp Set acts as a visual roadmap, drawing your eye from the foreground all the way toward the distant shoreline.
Fence posts, grasses, flowers, and beach textures naturally frame the path, adding movement and creating wonderful perspective. These small details make the finished card feel expansive, almost like looking through a window onto a real seaside escape.
The Perfect Pirate Surprise
Every adventure needs a hidden treasure.
Nestled in the foreground is the adorable octopus from Kraken Good Day, proudly protecting his treasure chest while sporting an oversized pirate hat.
Placing him in the lower corner creates a fun interactive focal point that balances the large sailing ship in the background. His cheerful expression adds just the right amount of whimsy while bringing personality to the entire composition.
It’s these unexpected storytelling elements that make handmade cards memorable.
Why This 5×7 Layout Works So Well
The larger 5×7 card size gives every element room to breathe.
Rather than feeling crowded, each section of the card serves a purpose:
- The dramatic sunset fills the upper third.
- The colorful beach huts anchor the middle.
- The sandy pathway creates depth.
- The pirate octopus provides a playful foreground focal point.
- Bold black and vibrant pink matting frames the artwork and intensifies the sunset colors.
The result is a professionally layered design that feels both elegant and fun.
