Christmas in August: Embracing the Holiday Spirit Early

Christmas in August has become something of a tradition for me. There’s just something about getting a head start on holiday crafting that feels right. Maybe it’s the warm weather outside while I’m inside working on something so full of holiday cheer. Plus, it gives me plenty of time to perfect my designs before the real rush of the holiday season begins. This year, I decided to create some special gift tags to add a personal touch to all my holiday wrapping.

Why Gift Tags Are the Perfect Project

Gift tags are like the cherry on top of a beautifully wrapped present. They’re small, quick to make, and an absolute joy to personalize. Plus, they’re a fantastic way to use up all those little bits and pieces you have tucked away in your stash. I find it so satisfying to dig through my supplies and put those scraps to good use. This project is all about embracing that creative spirit and turning it into something special.

Gathering Your Supplies: Crafting with Pajama Crafter Stamps

Let’s talk supplies. For this project, I used the Two Snow Ladies Stamp Set and Lump of Coal Rhinestones from Pajama Crafter Stamps—two of my favorite products for adding that special touch to holiday crafts. I also grabbed some scrap watercolor paper (cut down to 3 1/4″ x 4 1/4″) that I had lying around. For decorating the tags, I used some Christmas pattern paper (from my stash) to add a festive flair. To color the stamped images, I reached for my alcohol markers (from my stash) and some trusty scissors (from my stash) for fussy cutting.

Creating the Tags: Bringing the Snow Ladies to Life

To start, I stamped the Two Snow Ladies onto white cardstock using black alcohol marker friendly ink (from my stash). I love how crisp and clean this ink stamps, especially when I’m planning to use alcohol markers. Once the images were stamped, I colored them with my alcohol markers, keeping the colors bright and cheerful—perfect for the holiday season.

Pro Tip: When coloring with alcohol markers, work in layers and build up the color gradually. It helps to create depth and dimension, making your images really pop.

Next, I fussy cut the Snow Ladies with my scissors. There’s something incredibly satisfying about fussy cutting—it’s almost meditative! Once I had the images cut out, it was time to move on to the tags themselves.

Decorating the Tags: Adding Pattern and Flair

For the tags, I adhered pieces of Christmas pattern paper (from my stash) to the scrap watercolor paper bases. I played around with the sizes of the pattern paper, using some pieces cut to 3″ x 4″ and others to 2″ x 3″. There’s no right or wrong here—just have fun and see what looks good to you! After attaching the pattern paper, I used Bearly Arts Liquid Glue to add the fussy cut Snow Ladies to each tag.

To finish off the tags, I stamped some holiday sentiments using a green ink (from my stash). I also added some extra embellishments like fishtail banners cut from leftover scraps of pattern paper. These little touches really help to make each tag unique and special.

Finishing Touches: The Little Details That Make a Difference

Now, for the finishing touches! I rounded the top corners of each tag with a corner rounder (from my stash) and punched a hole at the top using a hole punch (from my stash). Then, I added a bit of baker’s twine to each tag—just loop about 12″ of twine through the hole and tie it off with a neat slip knot. To complete the look, I added some white gel pen highlights and, of course, a few Lump of Coal Rhinestones from Pajama Crafter Stamps. These rhinestones add the perfect amount of sparkle without overwhelming the design.

Why Handmade Gift Tags Add That Special Touch

Handmade gift tags are a wonderful way to add a personal touch to your holiday gifts. They show that you’ve taken the time to create something unique and special for your loved ones. Plus, they’re an excellent way to use up scraps and supplies, making them both eco-friendly and budget-friendly. I hope this project inspires you to start your holiday crafting early this year and to make something truly memorable.
