Stamping the Image

Start by stamping the great white shark from the Happy Flappy Stamp Set in light colored archival ink onto your 140 lbs Cold Press watercolor paper. This archival ink is perfect for watercoloring as it won’t smudge or bleed! I remember the first time I used archival ink for watercoloring—it made such a difference in the final look of my project.

Watercoloring the Shark

Next, it’s time to bring your shark to life! Using Distress Ink Re-Inkers as watercolors, start painting your shark. Simply dilute the re-inkers with a bit of water and start painting. I love how these inks provide vibrant colors with such ease. The cold press watercolor paper handles the water beautifully, giving you a smooth blend.

Pro Tip: If you’re new to watercoloring, start with light layers and build up the color gradually. This way, you have more control over the shading and depth of your image.

Creating the Background

Take your circle stencil and position it on the card front. For the top of the circle, use a medium shade of blue, teal, and light blue inks from my stash to ink blend. This creates a beautiful gradient effect, perfect for a sea theme. For the bottom of the circle, I used a toffee colored ink from my stash to mimic sandy textures. Make sure to avoid the stamped and watercolored shark.

Adding Additional Stamped Images

With the stencil mask still in place, stamp the hammerhead shark and stingray from the Happy Flappy Stamp Set in medium blue and teal inks that you used for the ink blending. This adds a fun element to the background without overpowering the main image. I remember the first time I experimented with layered stamping—it was like discovering a whole new dimension in card making!

Revealing the Clean and Simple Design

Carefully remove the mask to reveal your clean and simple design. It’s always exciting to see the crisp edges after removing the stencil. This step really brings the card to life! I love the moment of anticipation right before the reveal—it’s like opening a present!

Adding the Sentiment

Stamp your chosen sentiment below the main image on the card front. Inside, stamp the hammerhead and stingray along with an inside sentiment. This ties the whole design together and adds a professional finish to your card.

Final Touches

Attach the card front to your Kraft A2 top folding card base. Finish off your card with a few Arctic Blue Rhinestones three on the bottom left of the sentiment and two on the top right. These little embellishments add just the right amount of sparkle!

Pro Tip: Use a jewel picker to place your rhinestones accurately. It makes the process so much easier and ensures they stick exactly where you want them.

And there you have it! A beautiful, stress-free watercolor card using the Happy Flappy Stamp Set from Pajama Crafter Stamps.
