It’s Dinosaur Week, and that means it’s time for some prehistoric fun! I created these whimsical dinosaur birthday cards using a card sketch as my starting point, making it easy to create multiple cards in one crafting session while giving each one its own unique personality. I often search card sketches on socials or just screenshot a design I like so that I can use that as card sketch inspiration.
One of my favorite ways to stretch my craft supplies is by mixing and matching patterned papers from a single collection. For these cards, I reached for the Birthday Bash Patterned Paper Pack. Using different paper combinations from the same collection creates cohesive designs while making every card look fresh and unique. The paper choices also helped me decide on cardstock colors and how to color my stamped images.
The Focal Image
I stamped the adorable Prehistoric Birthday Stamp Set T-Rex and colored him to coordinate with each patterned paper combination. Pro Tip: When I have a stamp set out, I stamp more images than need for the project I’m working on. I keep extras in a “to be colored” pouch so they are all in one spot. I store the extra stamped sentiments in the stamp set envelope. Matching your coloring to your designer paper is an easy way to create polished, professional-looking handmade cards.
The Card Layout
For the layout, I used a 4″ x 5¼” embossed panel as my guide. I often emboss extra panels when I have an folder out so that I can grab a panel to add for extra texture on a card. The tall side panels measure 1″ x 5¼”, while the layered pieces are ¾” x 3½” on each side and 1¾” x 3½” in the center. This simple design comes together quickly and is perfect for batch cardmaking. I was able to quickly make four cards within minutes.
