Looking for an elegant handmade Christmas card idea that looks impressive but is surprisingly easy to create? This beautiful Christmas card combines gold heat embossing, alcohol marker coloring, vellum, layered cardstock, and a touch of sparkle for a festive design with plenty of dimension.
I used the Citrus & Scarlet Bloom Stamp Set to create this sophisticated holiday card, pairing a deep spruce cardstock with rich gold embossing and a beautifully colored focal bloom. The combination of tone-on-tone layers and metallic accents gives this card an elegant Christmas feel without making the design over complicated.
Create The Embossed Background Panel
For my background panel, I heat embossed the stunning Citrus & Scarlet Bloom stamp in beautiful gold onto deep spruce cardstock. The gold really pops against the spruce cardstock, creating an elegant background with beautiful dimension. I cut the embossed panel to 4″ x 5.25″ and added form tape to the background before adhering it to my card base. I love the tone-on-tone spruce cardstock onto the spruce card base for subtle dimension while keeping the overall design polished and cohesive.
Color The Focal Image
For the focal point of my card, I stamped one of the blooms from the Citrus & Scarlet Bloom Stamp Set onto Marshmallow Cardstock using an alcohol-marker-friendly ink. Then, came the fun part – coloring!
I used my alcohol markers to bring the bloom to life before carefully fussy cutting the image. I layed the colored flower onto a gold cord nest and placed it on top of a vellum Circle Peek A Boo Die Cut. The vellum adds another layer of softness while allowing the beautiful embossed background to remain visible underneath.
Add A Gold-Embossed Sentiment
For the sentiment, I grabbed a coordinating green cardstock scrap and embossed the “Merry Christmas” from the Citrus & Scarlet Blooms Stamp Set in gold. I then trimmed the sentiment using the Banner Die Set and added it to the card. Here’s one of my favorite cardmaking tips: batch your sentiment! Since I already had my embossing supplies out, I embossed several sentiments at once. Now, I have extras ready to add to future cards – which makes creating additional Christmas cards even quicker.
Bring On The Bling!
Of course, a card by Sandi isn’t complete without a little sparkle! I added a few different glitter glue accents from my stash to the focal image and finished the design with Moscato or Buttercream Rhinestone Mix. My Pajama Crafters’ Wand made adding the rhinestones quick and easy. It is definitely one of my favorite ways to add embellishments to my handmade cards. A little sparkle goes a long way, especially on a Christmas card!
