Sometimes a great card starts with a great sketch! For this project created for Pajama Crafter Stamps, I used a card sketch as inspiration and turned it into a fun baseball-themed design featuring the Champion In the Making Stamps.
I often use sketches as the starting point for my card designs, especially if I’m stuck for an idea or have “crafter’s block”.
Pinterest is a great place to find sketches, which is where this one comes from. Not sure who the creator is or I would give credit. It may be Dawn Griffith.
Preparing Materials
Once I found the sketch I pulled out my materials.
I knew that the Champion in the Making Stamps set would work great for this sketch.
And, since this set contains baseball images, I will go with papers from the Let’s Play Ball Paper Pack. These papers are red, white and blue. So that’s what my color palette will be.
A navy blue card base will make for a great card base and for matting the solid red, red stripe and white papers.
I cut 3 pieces of navy card stock. One piece at 4 1/4 x 11 inches for an A2 card base. The second piece is approximately 3 5/8 inches square. And, a third piece about 2 1/8 x 2 7/8 inches.
Cut solid red paper from the paper pack to 4 x 5 1/4 inches for the background. I cut the red stripe with a square die which measures about 3 1/2 inches. Cut white card stock to
2 x 2 3/4 inches.
Stamping & Die Cutting
I stamp the girl image from the stamp set, color with Prismacolor Pencils and fussy cut.
Navy card stock is cut with the Scalloped Circle Die and the longest banner from the Banner Die Set.
Die cut a white circle and stamp the sentiment “Swing Strong, Stand Out”.
Building the Design
To build the card design, adhere the red paper panel to the card base. Add the 2 square pieces on a slight tilt. Fancy Corners on the stripe paper add a little something extra.
Layer on the scallop circle and banner, which is cut down slightly.
Mat the white panel onto the small navy panel.
Complete by adding the girl image and sentiment circle.Complete by adding the girl image and sentiment circle.
Using a card sketch is a great when you’re feeling a little stuck creatively. You don’t have to follow the sketch exactly—use it as a jumping-off point and adapt the layout, images and embellishments to fit your project.
