Welcome to day 5!

Wow, I can’t believe that there is only 2 days left to this fun cross promotion with Cheery Lynn Designs. This has been such a fun week, but keep visiting us as we have more fabulous projects in store for you! And thank you all for your wonderful comments, we truly appreciate your support and hope to bring you many more blog postings of inspiration and stamping goodness.

I like to challenge myself into making my own background paper to coordinate with the stamps I want to use when making a card. So often I find that the patterned paper is often so busy, that it competes with the images I want to use. So, for this card I made my own background paper.

I started with a base paper of a light olive tone. I then stamped a small hibiscus from clear set CLR002A. I stamped flowers randomly with Versa Mark and white embossing powder. I then heat set. Next, I pulled out my watercolor set and painted  the whole surface with a deeper olive paint. I painted randomly so it would look modeled. Then I painted the petals with a light shade of pink. Once dry, I went over the petals with a deeper shade of pink.

Next, I cut two panels one Olive one Burgandy that measure at 5.25 by 1″. I then cut one CLD (B160 Queen Anne’s Lace border) from a lighter Olive paper. I layered as shown and adhered the border to the back. Attach to card front once complete. Stamp Thinking of You (CLR002A) with black ink.

To create the Hibiscus and leaves cut one flower and three leaves out of olive card stock, using PPRS D002. Stamp flower and color the same way as the background. Stamp the three leaves with white pigment ink. Layer and adhere all as shown.

Here are a few other cards from DT members:

Michelle using:
CLR033 Spring Flourished Oval, JJ0070 Lighthouse
Heidi:
GG0086 Flourished Graduate, B308 City Girl Edger, B301 Hearts Flourish Placecard #3

Love how you made your own background paper. The subtle colors you chose are fantastic. I love the layering you created. The matching die cut flower and the leaves add the finishing touch. Well done.
